Leiden Debating Union
The LDU is the student debating society of Leiden University. Our members have diverse backgrounds, ranging from social sciences to physics, including both undergraduate and graduate students. In the past a number of talented international students have also been members of our society.
Tuesday evenings
Every Tuesday evening we meet in student center Plexus to debate. Our debates can be both in Dutch or English, depending on upcoming tournaments. Debating topics vary from domestic policy to medical ethics and international relations.
After our debate evenings we head off to the English Pub located at the Noordeinde for drinks and fun.
Tournaments
Besides debating in Plexus, we also compete in many tournaments at home and abroad. In recent years we've visited Oxford, Cologne, Amsterdam, Tilburg and Istanbul. You can join us!
Last year Leiden ranked 31st out of 80 European Universities on the University Debating Ranking, comprised of mostly English-speaking institutions.
